Coronavirus Update #34

Dear Resident,

As reported yesterday in my email update, Governor Murphy confirmed that schools will be closed through the remainder of the school year and remote learning will continue.  The state is exploring summer learning opportunities for all students, including school-sponsored summer programming and Extended School Year for students with disabilities. We know and understand the disappointment that students and parents feel as graduation plans, like so many other plans, are not what we expected. The state will work with school officials to share ideas on safe and innovative ways to recognize 2020 high school graduates and other end-of-year milestones for students.  As always, updates will be sent directly from the schools to the parents/guardians of the students. 

Testing and Stats – New Jersey reported 2,494 new positive test results for a statewide total of 130,593. Monmouth County has 6,521 cases with 402 positives in Marlboro. Note that the state website experienced a network outage this weekend so the numbers are catching up from the past three days.  

Recent Health Care Graduates - Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Grewal announced today that recent graduates of nursing, physician assistant, pharmacy, and respiratory care therapy programs who have not yet been able to take and pass their licensing exams will be granted temporary emergency licenses. The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs will begin accepting applications for the emergency graduate licensure program today.

CARES Funding Act – Today Governor Murphy reported that the Federal Government relaxed its restrictions giving states more flexibility on how to use the federal aid from the CARES Act.  Originally, the U.S. Treasury Department said the funds had to be used for direct coronavirus-related expenses, not to make up for tax revenues that cratered after states shut down to stop the spread of the virus which would have meant that the state would have had to return most of the funds and would have meant massive layoffs to public workers including teachers and first responders.  The first payment of $467 million will go to NJ schools.  Governor Murphy thanked Treasury Secretary Mnuchin for his assistance and cooperation. 

Marlboro Swim Club and Summer Programs –The summer is fast approaching and the Recreation Department is working closely together with its Advisory Board to plan summer 2020 and review options for the Marlboro Swim Club and summer programs.   Safety remains our primary goal and responsibility, and this year certainly brings with it new concerns and challenges.   That being said, we continue to plan for a variety of different scenarios as we await guidance from state and local health officials.  We appreciate your patience during this time and we will update you as plans are solidified.  If you have any questions please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Unemployment Assistance to the self-employed, independent contractors and others not usually eligible for unemployment insurance are being notified of their eligibility and payments will begin to be made.  Instructions, details and process were included in yesterday’s email update. 

Congressman Frank Pallone’s Updates on business assistance, unemployment, volunteer opportunities was included in yesterday’s update and is linked HERE.  

We have two opportunities for those who wish to give back. Volunteers are wanted to Support Victims of Sexual Violence.  Sexual Assaults do not stop in a pandemic. This is a joint Marlboro Police/180 Turning Lives Around program.  The training is free and, for those that have not had the time in the past to attend classes, the class is now virtual.  The flyer is on the website and HERE.

The Marlboro Educational Foundation asks residents to join them in saying thank you to First Responders and Essential Workers with a Marlboro Thank You Lawn Signs. Sign proceeds will be divided between the Township First Aid Squads and the Educational Foundation.  FLYER
