Winter Weather Event – Update #2
Dear Resident,
The National Weather Service has updated its forecast for a winter storm beginning on Friday night and extending into Saturday. Although the storm’s track is still uncertain, we can expect at least some snow accumulation with windy conditions and frigid temperatures. The Department of Public Works will begin pre-treating the roadways today in anticipation of this storm.
The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management asks that you use this time to prepare, and reminds residents of the following:
- Remove vehicles and obstructions such as basketball hoops from the roads before you head to bed this evening. As per ordinance, roads must be clear during snowplow operations.
- If possible, please stay off the roads allowing clear passage for plows and emergency vehicles.
- Do not clear your driveway all the way to the street before our snowplows have cleared the roads. Doing so greatly increases the chances of snow blocking your driveway. NOTE: If you have an emergency, first responders will get to you even if your driveway has not been plowed.
- Please review the ‘Surviving the Snow’ on pages 22 and 23 of the Recycling Calendar and linked HERE for tips, important numbers and websites.
- We ask for your patience as the Department of Public Works clears our 200 miles of roadway. Note it takes DPW 10 hours to clear 4 inches of snowfall.
Snow and wind can lead to outages. Please keep the following information at hand:
- Report any outages directly to JCP&L by calling 888-LIGHTSS (888-544-4877).
- Set up JCP&L text reporting now by texting ‘REG’ to 544487 to get started. You will need your 12-digit account number and zip code.
- Assume all downed wires are live and dangerous and report to Marlboro Police at 732-536-0100.
- Optimum website how to stay connected when the power is out, how to report an outage, FAQ and more.
Please listen to local weather forecasts as they can change quickly. We will send updates via email, website and social media.
Stay safe,
Mayor Jon Hornik
