Weekend Update

Dear Resident,

In cooperation with the Prevention Coalition of Monmouth County and the Marlboro Drug Alliance, I have proclaimed August 31 as Overdose Awareness Day in the boundaries of Marlboro Township.  A display of purple flags are at the entrance to Town Hall and at other municipal centers throughout the County.  Each flag represents an individual lost due to a drug overdose in Monmouth County this year.  Marlboro is proud to be a stigma free community, supporting residents who need treatment for mental illness and substance abuse. 

Programming continues with Family Movie Night featuring Mamma Mia! on Thursday August 25. The Teen Advisory committee (TAC), open to residents ages 13-18 starts with the new school year on September 8.

SPECIAL NOTICES

Annual Tax BillsThe grace period ends Monday.  The 3rd quarter property taxes extended grace period is August 22 (due August 1st).  Note that interest charges on payments made after the grace period are calculated back to the August 1 due date. Payments can be made online, via email or by using the 24/7 drop box available in the Town Hall vestibule 24/7 or at the tax office. The message from the tax collector can be viewed HERE.

Marlboro K-8 Public Schools Hiring Event – Substitute teachers, instructional aides, clerical staff and nurses wanted.  Learn more at their open house on Wednesday, August 24.  Sessions throughout the day.  See FLYER for more.  Refer a friend make $100. See FLYER for program details.  

Recycling Center – Our Township recycling center is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 8am - 1:30 pm and Saturdays 8am - 4pm. Recyclables, leaf and brush, and electronics may be dropped off during scheduled hours throughout the year at no charge, no permit required.   Bulk trash required a free permit available on line HERE.  Information about the Recycling Center and what may be recycled is on page 18 of the Recycling Calendar HERE. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) – Do you have a child age 13 to 18 that wants to give back, ‘Do Good’ and get community service hours? Talk to them about joining the Teen Advisory Committee.  Register for TAC HERE and come to the first meeting of the school year on September 8 at 7:30pm in the Town Hall courtroom.  Click HERE to learn more.  

Domestic Violence Response Volunteers (DVRT) – The Marlboro Police Department is seeking volunteers to serve on the DVRT.  In affiliation with 180 Turning Lives Around (180), and with the assistance of the response team volunteers, the Marlboro Police Department continues to make this free, 24/7 confidential service available to victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of a highly emotional and traumatic experience. 180’s volunteer DVRT Advocates are civilian members of the community who work collaboratively with law enforcement to provide support, information, and resources to victims of domestic violence at police headquarters. Economic Development Committee (EDC) - The EDC supports local businesses through events, Shop Marlboro program and ribbon cuttings. Time commitment is 2-3 hours a month. The Marlboro EDC is looking for volunteers who have some or all of the following specialized skills: strong written and verbal communication skills, Social Media expertise, Graphic Design, Commitment to attend evening team meetings approx. every three weeks and participate in key initiatives (mostly weekends, such as New Business Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies, Marlboro Day, etc.) Want to learn more? First Aid Squads Need You! Give back to your community and learn invaluable life skills.   Marlboro and Morganville First Aid Squads offer free EMT certification and driver training to recruits, and active membership also qualifies volunteers for discounts on various Township fees and memberships and an annual contribution towards an individual retirement-type program.  Want to learn more? Momma Mia! Family Movie Night – Sing a-long with us! Bring the family, movie snacks, chairs and blankets and join us under the stars at the Recreation Amphitheater.  Seating begins at 7pm and the movie rolls at 8.  FLYER

PUBLIC SAFETY

Vacation Safety Check - Register for a free police security check to request extra patrols while you are away. Request this service by reading the WAIVER FORM and completing the REQUEST FOR SECURITY CHECK.

Take the Safety Pledge – Thank you to the residents who already took the pledge. If you took the pledge and your sign was not yet delivered, send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..   If you have not yet taken the pledge, click HERE for QR codes to set up and account and request the pledge lawn sign. Don’t let your guard down! Continue to lock your car, remove your key fob and keep valuables that are left in your car out of sight.  The 'See Something, Say Something and We Will Do Something' initiative continues to be effective and I thank all residents for your support and cooperation.  Please do not hesitate. If you see something suspicious or out of place, call the police.

Overdose Awareness Day – The Mayoral Proclamation can be viewed HERE.  With funds provided by the NJ Office of the Attorney General ‘NJ CARES Helping Hand Grant, Monmouth County provides a 24/7 opioid addiction hotline available at 833-OHH-CARE.  In case of emergencies dial 9-1-1. 

Project Medicine Drop Box – We urge residents to dispose of unused or unwanted medications by placing them in the drop box located in the police lobby and available 24/7.  Prescription drugs left in the medicine cabinet can easily fall into the wrong hands and disposing medicines in the garbage or by flushing can lead to environmental hazards including water contamination. Sharps are not accepted but can be disposed of at local hospitals or returned via Sharps service.  MORE  

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Paper Shredding (Monmouth County) – Paper shredding dates are available throughout the county for residents.  Up to 100 pound accepted (4 office paper boxes or 4 large trash bags). Large binder clips must be removed, paper clips and staples can remain.  Upcoming dates Aberdeen (August 20) and Marlboro (September 24). See the flyer for locations, other dates and MORE. Look for a date for Marlboro residents this fall. 

CCOs and Planning Ahead - Please note that we are in the busy season for CCOs and our Community Development Team asks that you plan ahead.  Please see ways to speed the CCO process, how to report property maintenance concerns and report potholes online HERE.

COVID-19 Ratepayer Relief Measures –Measures are in place to provide relief to ratepayers experiencing economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The NJ Department of Community Affairs has developed a low income household water assistance program.  Please review the letter from the Marlboro Water Utility HERE.
